So I’m the worst blogger ever… this we have all realized but greencottonblog.com will be featuring a story about me soon and this gal is the real deal so keep your eye out for that…
In the meantime some things that the interview made me think about that I didn’t include but I feel worth mentioning all the same…
I have a vendetta against the polypropylene bag, Just because something is recycled doesn’t make it eco-friendly. All the research I’ve done into the production of Polyproylene (that popular recycled plastic reusable bag every grocery store is selling now) indicates that the process of changing plastics into fabrics is a toxic process that pollutes the earth and doesn’t even make the plastic biodegradable. so basically it only prolongs the time between use and landfill but produces more chemicals in the meantime…
Also Bamboo fibers: lets set the record straight bamboo awesomely sustainable to grow… it is not always sustainable to make into fabric (it can be but most companies don’t choose to go that direction with the production…) the most common type of Bamboo fabric is bamboo rayon which is produced with chemicals and toxins which kinda negates the “earth friendly” connotation, don’t you think?
green-washing idiots. grumble.
So on this long weekend I have done a terrible job of updating. In part that is due to my low camera battery access (which will be fixed tomorrow when I return to my normal flat (oh I am so European). But in the meantime the next few post will be a weekend in review!:
So Saturday, most things seemed to be open again so I decided to go to see some stores and some sites. Mostly i meant to just go to Trinity College so that I could see the Library and the Book of Kells but on the way… I had to go by a street of all shops.
Interesting obervations – on very few of the garments I tried on could I find where they were made. This is generally something that is needed to be on the labels at least in my experience so I wonder if the laws are different here? That being said I have to unfortunaly admit that I still made a few purchases (one was a dress for Easter since I decided I would like to see what a holiday mass was like in Ireland but didn’t have anything appropriate with me to wear.)
Book of Kells – The exhibit was very well put together especially since there isn’t so much to display. (they only have like maybe 6 or 7 books) There were large blown up panels with images from the books along with history, the raw materials, and videos on how they were made. I was really excited that I got to see the book of Durrow. Plus it was nice to see some smaller books of hours. When you only ever see them projected on a screen during a lecture you think they are all the same size but some of them are soo small and to think that the details hold up that well even projected is insane! the Library was beautiful as well but I was there for the illuminated manuscripts.
Today was my first day at EDUN-LIVE!!! I started off reviewing the online resources for the company and seeing if there was anything I could do to amp’m up. I spent most of the day studying Edun-Live’s blog so keep your eye on it! (Don’t worry the writing is not done by me I wouldn’t ask you to read more of my text then was absolutely necessary!) Most exciting part of the day was finding out that I’m not a total loss when it comes to computers. Hell I might even start revamping this site now that I have a little more confidence in HTML. (now that I say that I hope tomorrow isn’t a total bust). I’m sure even more exciting stuff is on the way but right now I’m just happy to be working on something I really care about again!
Side notes and inspirations:
You have no idea how good fish and chips can really be. Well maybe you do but I didn’t till last night.
I think I’m going to really like walking to work. It makes me feel peppy(perhaps an “er” is in order here?)
I think I’m done my first hand embrodiered tee (Edun-Live tee below) and I think I’m going to start another. Cuz i’m crazy.
